Boston Children’s Theatre (BCT) presents the beloved Rodgers and Hammerstein, Tony Award-winning musical, The Sound of Music, loosely based on the true story of the Trapp Family Singers.
The musical chronicles the love story of Maria, a young postulant from a nearby abbey, and Captain von Trapp, a widower and decorated hero of the Austro-Hungarian Navy, against the looming devastation of World War II. Music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. The book, by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, is based on the memoir of Maria von Trapp. Favorite songs from the musical include "The Sound of Music", "Edelweiss", "My Favorite Things", "Climb Ev'ry Mountain", and "Do-Re-Mi". The Sound of Music cast features 28 talented young BCT veterans and new performers, ranging in age from 9 to 19 and residing in six Boston neighborhoods and 14 suburban communities.
