James Vanderpoel House, Columbia County Historical Society

16 Broad St., Kinderhook, NY, 12106
(518) 758-9265 - Venue Website

The James Vanderpoel House is a distinguished example of Federal period architecture. Originally the home of a prominent lawyer and politician, James Vanderpoel, and his family, the house reflects an elegant lifestyle in a prosperous, early 19th-century village. The fashionable Federal style emphasized lightness of proportion, symmetry, and delicate ornamentation.

The property is owned and operated by the Columbia County Historical Society, and is currently undergoing restoration.

Venue Type: Historic
Hours: With the exception of some special events, the Vanderpoel House is closed for restoration. When complete the house will be the cornerstone of the Society's Center for Columbia County History. For more information on this exciting transition please contact
